Letter bands and service allocations
Approximate teaching ranges are L 1–2 GHz, S 2–4, C 4–8, X 8–12, Ku 12–18, K 18–26.5 and Ka 26.5–40 GHz. Ippolito rounds the K/Ka boundary to 27 GHz. Letter bands are broad labels: an actual service uses allocated subranges that depend on region and direction.

Common mistakes
- A letter band is not a precise licensed service allocation.
- Do not teach that Ku waves travel faster than C waves.
- Convert GHz to Hz before using c/f.
Formula reference and symbol definitions
Wave relationship
λ: m; c: m/s; f: Hz
Vacuum propagation.
Example: At 6 GHz, λ = 3 × 10⁸ / (6 × 10⁹) = 0.050 m.

λ: m; f: GHz
c = 3×10⁸ m/s.
Example: At 12 GHz, λ ≈ 0.3/12 = 0.025 m = 2.5 cm.
